It's superior from a simplicity perspective and has the potential to integrate into the other Spiceworks products (help desk, inventory, etc.), but I think ultimately aimed for a <25 node shop that has zero monitoring and wants some level of metrics presented. Nagios, PRTG, Solarwinds, etc are much more feature rich.
